Since 2013 Valeria works as External Lecturer at the Department of Media, Cognition & Communication at the University of Copenhagen. She teaches a 14-week course in Film adaptation: craft, art, business; in collaboration with Sofie Wanting Hassing. The course focuses on various aspects film adaptation; inspired by the growing trend of adapting books, comics, plays and a wide variety of popular and emerging digital formats into film, and vice versa. Based on an overview of classic and recent adaptation theories and research, the course offers case studies, group work and insights into the adaptation industry, including hands-on knowledge presented by invited guests from the Danish film and publishing industry, i.e. focusing on the artistic process and collaboration (author Morten Kirkskov and script writer Bo hr. Hansen), production, financing and contractual issues (producers Nina Crone and Louise Vesth), as well as special sessions on, for example, short stories and cross media adaptation trends. The course is currently being adapted into shorter lecture and 1-3 day workshop programmes that can be tailored to specific needs and interests.
